It is that time of year when schools are finishing the year. We have graduations to celebrate and looking forward to summer.

One particular graduation we want to note is that of Susanna Stewart, daughter of Dr. Clarke Stewart. Susannah graduated Cum Laude from Mississippi College. She will be entering Ole Miss Law School in the fall. Congratulations to Susannah. You will make a great lawyer, Susannah but don’t forget your art. You have a wonderful talent for art.

The Country Fair in Raymond was a huge success. The booths were laid out so that there was plenty room to look and buy. The weather was perfect and there was a good crowd. The Chamber of Commerce was pleased with the fair. It seems to get better every year.

Aubrey and Naomi Barnette had invited members of the Raymond High School, class of ‘71 to come by their house at 213 West Main Street about 2:00, after their time at the fail and have refreshments and a good visit.

Jerry Agent just returned from a trip to Ireland with the New Directions Over 55 group sponsored by St. Dominic Hospital. Highlights of the trip included a tour of the Waterford Crystal Factory, a demonstration of sheep dogs herding sheep with voice commands and whistle commands, and a night spent in a castle. Jerry reports that the whole trip was just delightful and that it felt really great to be out there traveling again.

Ireland is one of may favorite places we have been to in our traveling. I am envious of Jerry and hope we can go again soon.

Our daughter, Mary Boerema had a wonderful trip to South Africa. Many of you know that Mary is a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. This work trip gave the crew a long lay over in Johannesburg. Mary was able to visit a conservation spot and got to give a baby lion a bottle. The smile on her face was a delight to see. The next day she went on a day safari and got to see many animals in the wild. The herd of elephants was especially interesting. One of the elephants got so close to their vehicle that she could hear the elephant sniffing her. This trip was a thrilling experience that she said made her 30 years with Delta worth while.

Dr. Smith will be opening her dental practice on May 25th. She is renovating the dental office of Dr. Gatewood and will be anxious to meet her patients after the 25th. She is the daughter of Ray and Bridget Smith. Her dental practice will be most welcomed in Raymond.

Cati Mathews, granddaughter of Joe and Mary Anne Woods finished her outstanding high school track career with one last medal at the MAIS Class 5A meet on Saturday. Cati is a senior at St. Aloysius.

I know that I am missing things that should be in the news; but I have been sick with a cold and haven’t felt like being diligent. Hoping I haven’t missed too many items. Bring them to my attention please.
