The 2022 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8. During this midterm election year, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested. Thirty-nine state and territorial gubernatorial elections, as well as numerous other state and local elections, will be contested. This will be the first election affected by the redistricting that will follow the 2020 census.
I visited the office of the Hinds County Election Commission to obtain a sample ballot to be published in this week’s column in order to help this county’s electorate in knowing whose names and which races will be on the ballot. The receptionist and the chairwoman told me that one name was omitted and that a sample ballot could not be obtained. I was assured that this information would be online as soon as it was available, but, as of the evening of Monday, October 3, this information is not online. I do know that the races for the U.S. House of Representatives and Hinds County School Board will appear. About the judicial races in our part of the county (as well as School Board candidates), I have no knowledge about which names will be appearing. I have attended several meetings in which judicial candidates have spoken, but all of these candidates have told me that Terry did not appear in their judicial districts.
