Terry News

The Town of Terry held the America 250 Celebration in Village Square Park on Saturday. Flags were waving along with two America 250 flags that remain in the park. Red, white and blue was throughout the town.

The morning started with a spirited parade. The Corvette Club was featured with 30 beautifully restored Corvettes. Of course, the Town of Terry Police and Fire trucks joined in creating lots of noise to get the town awake and to join in the excitement.

The Fun Extravaganza in the park was a hit for all attending. The Terry Historic Committee and James Foster Chapter, MSSDAR were on hand with complimentary America 250 memorabilia. Local churches were present with information on their church's history.

Choirs sang in the afternoon. The ribbon cutting for the Terry America 250 Arboretum was held at 11:30 with Donna Yowell, Executive Director of the Arboretum Trail and Carolyn Clements, Chairman presenting the town with the official signage The America 250 designated Elm tree was dedicated, representing the Liberty Tree that was cut down in Boston in 1776 by the English. Hinds County Sheriff, Tyree Jones, sponsored the tree along with Terry Historic Committee.

Recently enjoyed dinner with my son, Steve Clements and Beth Clark of Franklin, Tn. Beth is a writer and has appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list. During our dinners a fun story is always shared on Dr Stanley Hartness.

He is held in highest regard by Steve and Beth. The food at the Mayflower was outstanding. Still have fond memories of going to the original cafe.

It has many of the elements from the past, to include the black and white floor tiles that have lasted throughout the years. It was Eudora Weltys favorite restaurant, as well. Highlyi recommended.

Recently visited with Betty Davis, by phone, with a historical question. She was in good spirits. I learned in our conversation that Betty Sue Brister Morgan had passed away quite a while ago.

Sad news for those of us with fond memories of Betty Sue. Alexis Reed returned to the Town of Terry as Town Clerk this week. Welcome back, Alexis!
